Johnny Wactor's Tragic Murder: Last Moments with Family at Mother's 60th Birthday
Johnny Vector, a 'General Hospital' actor, was fatally shot in L.A.
Los Angeles police said the victim apparently discovered a catalytic converter theft and was shot.
Actor Johnny Vector, known for his work on the daytime drama "General Hospital," was fatally shot in Los Angeles while attempting to prevent a crime, according to his family and police.
His mother, Scarlett Vector, confirmed his death in the incident. He was 37 years old.
She described her son as "a light in a dark room."
She said, "We all have a huge hole, and there's no way to fix it."
Vector's agent, David Scholl, said in a statement to Variety that he was a dedicated worker and an exemplary individual.
Scholl said, "He always kept his spirits high amid the ups and downs of a challenging profession and strove for the best." "Having been with us for over a decade, he leaves a hole in our hearts forever."
The Los Angeles Police Department, which did not confirm the deceased's identity, presented a narrative of the incident.
The police department said that around 3:25 a.m. on Sunday, the victim saw three individuals removing a catalytic converter from a vehicle near Pico Boulevard and Hope Street in the southwest corner of Los Angeles.
Police said one of the three fired a shot, injuring the victim, who was pronounced dead.
Scarlett Vector said via phone from South Carolina that her son was bartending on a rooftop nearby, helping with "deep cleaning" after the last call, and walked down the street to his car with three coworkers.
She said two coworkers went in a different direction to their vehicles, leaving her son and another coworker. He saw his car, which was jacked up, and thought it was being towed because he had parked it in an unfamiliar place, knowing he would be working late, she said.
He stepped in front of his coworker and asked someone sitting on the ground next to his vehicle if it was being towed, at which point that person shot him, she said.

Scarlett Vector said Johnny, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, wanted to act since elementary school. She said he remained in contact with his theater instructor after enrolling in Rollings Middle School of the Arts in South Carolina and moving to Hollywood.
Whenever possible, he continued honing his craft by taking acting classes or auditing. She said he also enjoyed climbing when time permitted.
The industry was no pleasant journey, and at one point, Scarlett Vector said, "I thought he was nearly starving."
According to the Internet Movie Database, he made his television debut on Lifetime's "West Wives" and eventually appeared in 164 episodes of "General Hospital," playing Brando, the son of Gladys Corbin, portrayed by Bonnie Burroughs.
According to IMDb, he also appeared on television's "Westworld" and as a voice in the video game "Call of Duty: Vanguard."
Scarlett Vector said his acting work might help her cope with her loss.
She said, "I think when I watch Johnny in videos and recordings, I can only hope he's doing that in heaven and enjoying it."

Catalytic converter thieves target these pollution-preventing parts for their valuable industrial metals - platinum, palladium, and rhodium - whose prices skyrocketed before and during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, thefts peaked nationwide in 2022. A wave of legislation in states from California to Rhode Island has made it harder to buy and sell stolen catalytic converters and the metals they contain.
